Juniper Networks MX Series Router (Junos OS — MX204 / MX480 / MX960 / MX10003 / MX10004) — Default Password

Default username and password for the Juniper Networks MX Series Router (Junos OS — MX204 / MX480 / MX960 / MX10003 / MX10004): root / (blank). Learn how to log in and how to change the default credentials.

Factory-fresh Junos OS devices have a root account with NO password. The first configuration commit fails unless a root password is set — the OS enforces root password configuration before changes can be saved. SSH root login is blocked until a root password is committed. The same zero-password-on-root behavior applies to all Juniper platforms running Junos (EX, QFX, SRX, PTX, MX). Console-only access with empty root password on new hardware.
