VMware vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) 5.x and 6.x shipped with a default GRUB bootloader password of 'vmware'. This is distinct from the appliance root OS password (set during deployment). VCSA 7.0 and later prompt for a fresh root password at deploy time. The GRUB password can be used at the physical/console boot menu to modify kernel parameters and gain OS-level access.
